Where WebRTC and the IoT Meet
WebRTC, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard for next-gen real time communications, and an open source project created by Google, earlier this month hosted a webinar sharing various use cases where WebRTC enhances the IoT and IIoT.
Telemedicine, telehealth, Google Glass, remote field support and other applications are booming, and WebRTC is now actively being used in different IoT ecosystems, adding multimedia communications into solutions where people and machines need to work in real time together. Given restful APIs, WebRTC makes it easier for third parties to develop embedded communications applications, sometimes using sensor data to trigger a message, alert, voice session or video collaboration.
WebRTC can also simply be used as a channel to send data using encryption techniques which makes that transmission more secure than a typical Web Sockets server.
