Samsung launches data metering service for IoT
Samsung has launched a service to aid the monetisation of data usage by IoT devices.
Samsung ARTIK Cloud Monetisation for the Internet of Things will allow device makers to meter the data used by customers on a device so that customers can be charged for it.
Using a developer portal, device-makers will be able to define service plans according to need. The service will then measure data usage against this plan and manage payments back to the manufacturer.
Previously manufacturers have had to either absorb the data costs of the devices or factor in anticipated data costs to their retail prices.
“It’s an open data broker model that enables, for the first time, device manufacturers and service providers to tap into an open IoT ecosystem and create service plans that generate revenue directly from the interactions of devices and services,” said a blog from the Samsung Artik team. Read more…
