IoT technology set to enhance security along hostile borders

As India faces a series of incursions on its borders by China and Pakistan, the Defence Ministry is evaluating testing internet of things (IoT) technology modules and applications which can talk to one another irrespective of distance and time, store data and provide data analysis, real time. The aim is to reduce casualties among forces and bring in more stringent monitoring.

“From a national perspective, IoT technology is playing a key role as the Indian government fences its border with Pakistan and installs sophisticated security and surveillance equipments,” said sources who recently made presentations to senior defence ministry officials responsible for procurement.

Investment in security and surveillance is expected to get additional budgetary allocations and in the field of security and surveillance, IoT based applications can be utilized remotely to detect movement.

“In the coming years, there would be greater use of video management systems (VMS) to search through big data in order to pull up relevant events, people, locations, times, colors and keywords,” Ashish Gulati, Country Head Telit India. IoT applications are emerging as ideal systems for smart security surveillance monitoring, wherever security is a big concern.They are also playing a key role in protecting industries, banks, offices, critical installments like nuclear power stations and other crucial installations.
