IoT security must be built in, not bolted on
IoT security – As the IoT (Internet of Things) are getting popularized in these seasons, i.e., it is ubiquitous everywhere, from household to big businesses. IoT will be witnessed more popularized in the coming seasons and the scene will be drastically elevated with the arrival of 5G.
The upcoming projects and proposals will be mostly centered around IoT products and services. A new evolved or more updated versions of IoT will be seen everywhere and the key players of the market will be IoT master minds.
“There’s no doubt that IoT is going to open the door for innovation, but from the threat aspect, it doesn’t matter whether you are in oil and gas, power, security, or banking — the vulnerability of IoT being unencrypted and vulnerable is the same for everyone,” said Trevor Coetzee, the SADC regional director for Palo Alto Networks.
The threats – Thing that need to be considered with the over dependence on IoT things. Probably most of the IoT products are ranked for user friendly interface. So there will be houses, markets and businesses soon embraced by this new advent along with the 5G connectivity. The critical scenario arise during this time is the security associated with the IoT things. How much does public aware of the security with the over reliance on IoT products?
Till now security in IoT things is an added feature or a requirement that a few person need. It doesn’t associated with IoT things. Experts are of the opinion that security should be instilled right at the implementation of the idea rather considering security as a additional accessory or requirement.
Advocate Lufuno Khorommbi, MD of cyberlaw at Orizur, said cybersecurity was unfortunately still treated as an addition rather than a core requirement, both from the technical and the legal side. she said. “Very few companies are actually doing awareness and education. There’s too much ignorance in terms of the legal side of things, and around cybersecurity governance in general.”
