IoT, channel ‘really need each other’
The global Internet of Things (IoT) market is expected to grow rapidly over the next several years, giving channel partners – particularly those with specialization in particular verticals or regions and strong vendor relationships – a wide field to operate in, according to analysts.
Last week IDC released its Worldwide Semiannual Internet of Things Spending Guide which predicted worldwide spending on the IoT this year will jump 16.7 percent over 2016, reaching more than $800 billion and continue rising to almost $1.4 trillion by 2021. The growth will come from organizations investing in the products – from hardware and software to connectivity and services – that underpin the IoT, driving a shift in the discussion around the emerging trend away from the number of connected devices, the analyst said.
“The true value of IoT is being realized when the software and services come together to enable the capture, interpretation and action on data produced by IoT endpoints,” Carrie MacGillivray, VP of IoT and mobility at IDC, said in a statement. Read more…
