Ground broken to signal rebirth of former Robbins block – News – fosters.com – Dover, NH

The block, which was once the headquarters of the Robbins Auto Parts Store, once housed a bank, the Orpheum, a rooming house and political offices at points in its history. However, it’s been vacant for a number of years, and the Robbins family sold the property in early 2017.

“(It’s) going to be a beautiful building,” Weston said about the new construction. “What we’re going to have, once this project is complete, is going to be something that blends in with the history of the City of Dover. (It’s) definitely going to fit in.”

The plans for the new building include commercial space on the first floor and 130 luxury apartments on floors 2-5. Construction is anticipated to take 14-16 months.

“We’re very excited and happy that this project is getting underway,” City Manager Mike Joyal said. “We’re very much looking forward to this project (becoming) part of the livelihood of the downtown.” Read more…
