Automotive Safety Using IoT:
Automotive Safety Using IoT – The advancement of technology has changed how we interact with our environment. The automotive industry is no exception to this rule. IoT technology has become popular over the past few years and integrating IoT devices into vehicles has been for the better. The use of cameras, sensors and other connected devices has reduced the probability of accidents. This reduces the number of accidents and injuries that happen on the road. It is ironic how, the more control we take away from the user on safety control, they more safer vehicles become.
Automotive Safety Using IoT – Active/Passive Safety:
Active and passive safety both play a huge role in the protection of the driver. The best way to describe active safety is the car automatically applying breaks when it detects another car in front. While passive safety would be the car notifying the driver that a car is in front and they should break. Both of these have a place in the car, different situations require different types of safety. For example, if another car approaches a driver from their blind spot. The car will notify the driver of the approaching car. After which the driver can take appropriate action. This is an example of passive safety. Active safety would be the car braking automatically when it detects the car getting too close to the driver.
Automotive Safety Using IoT – Car Information:
Another way IoT devices promote automotive safety is by providing drivers real-time information about their car. Sensors can detect problems in the brakes, engine, lights, and other systems of a car. This way, the driver can be informed of these issues beforehand before they result in the failure of the car. Accidents and injuries can be prevented if the driver knows of issues in their car and gets them fixed.
Automotive Safety Using IoT – Obstacle Sensors:
One more example of IoT-enabled automotive safety is the use of sensors and cameras for obstacles/person detection. By equipping vehicles with cameras and sensors that can detect the presence of people/obstacles, drivers can be alerted of any potential hazard. This way the can take precautions to avoid hitting an obstacle/person. This feature is useful while driving in densely populated urban areas. In addition to this, IoT devices can provide useful information to automotive manufacturers. This way they can identify any patterns emerging in vehicle safety and performance. The data gathered can allow automotive manufacturers to make needed improvements to their existing systems.
