IoT tech startup Guardhat moves from Southfield to downtown Detroit

Gilbert’s venture capital company Detroit Venture Partners invests in the startup, which raised more than $21 million of capital over the past year, according to a news release from Bedrock. Spokeswoman Sam West said Detroit Venture Partners first invested in Guardhat in 2015, a year after it was founded, and invested again in February.

The startup was created by Saikat Dey, who worked as CEO for the North America subsidiary of Russian steel company Severstal from 2011-14. It specializes in work safety through wearable technology and software. It has eight patents for its products, which include a smart hardhat that communicates with a safety control center, detects action in immediate surroundings and monitors vital signs.
