The rapid weaponization of vulnerable services has continued as attackers take advantage of everything from smart home sensors to smartphones, routers, and even Apple software to use as an attack surface. With a growing appetite for IoT devices globally, Governments, defence and intelligence agencies around the world are creating gaps with devices because there are simply very few ways to manage sprawling IoT devices and their data. On average, 7.7 million IoT devices are connected to the internet every day, many of them with known security issues or even with no security at all. What’s worse, proof-of-concept malware has appeared, targeting the untold number of vulnerable devices behind firewalls, which number 20 times more than those connected to the internet.
